St.Petersburg Arts Tour

St.Petersburg is a dream for lovers of fine art.  Our tour includes a full day at the Hermitage, with probably the most comprehensive art collection in the world and a day at the Russian Museum, probably the best collection of Russian art and artefacts in the world. Your expert guide will take you to the collections you wish to see - some may favour the outstanding Dutch Masters section, the Impressionist section or the Rodin Sculptures - the Hermitage has it all. Our guides have intimate knowledge of the Hermitage and you will not have to wait in the main queue, a major advantage in the busier summer months. If you do have a specific interest do let us know and we will do our best to organise subject specific visits before you arrive.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in St.Petersburg. Transfer to hotel. Evening at leisure
Day 2 Breakfast. City Tour followed by lunch then a visit to the splendid Academy of Fine Arts Museum. Many prominent Russian artists graduated from the Russian Academy of Fine Arts and the Repin Institute. Their works were put on display in the former building of the Academy alongside with works by their professors. Today it shows mostly graduation and study projects together with paintings related to the history of the Academy. Although this is not the best art collection in town, one can find some excellent art work there and get an insight in the art education of the past.
Day 3 Breakfast. 10am-4pm Hermitage tour - The Hermitage Museum is Russia's best art gallery, one of the most prominent museums in the world, and definitely the main tourist attraction of St. Petersburg. The museum was founded in 1764 when Catherine the Great purchased a collection of 255 paintings from Berlin. Today, the Hermitage has about 2.7 million exhibits and displays a full range of world art from Ancient Egypt to early 20th century Europe. It includes works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, unique collections of Rembrandt, Rubens, French Impressionists (Renoir, Cezanne, Manet, Monet, Pissarro), plus Van Gogh, Matisse, Gaugin and sculptures by Rodin.
Day 4 Breakfast - 10am-4pm Russian Museum tour. In March 1998, the State Russian Museum, the world's largest museum of Russian art, celebrated its 100th anniversary. The museum, then called the "Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III", was established in 1895 and opened its doors to the public on March 7 (19), 1898. The first paintings for its collection were donated by the Hermitage, Academy of Fine Arts and various royal palaces.
Day 5 Breakfast, free time to say your farewells to this lovely city and transfer to the airport for your flight home
