Tour followed by lunch then a visit to the Hermitage -
The Hermitage Museum is Russia's best art gallery, one
of the most prominent museums in the world, and
definitely the main tourist attraction of St.
Petersburg. The museum was founded in 1764 when
Catherine the Great purchased a collection of 255
paintings from Berlin. Today, the Hermitage has about
2.7 million exhibits and displays a full range of world
art from Ancient Egypt to early 20th century Europe. It
includes works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo,
Raphael, Titian, unique collections of Rembrandt,
Rubens, French Impressionists (Renoir, Cezanne, Manet,
Monet, Pissarro), plus Van Gogh, Matisse, Gaugin and
sculptures by Rodin. Evening optional Theatre visit (Mariinsky

Breakfast. State
Museum of Theatre and Music. you can see portraits of
famous musicians from the past, theatre designs by
well-known artists, posters, manuscripts, theatre props,
set models - everything that will help you to imagine
the legendary drama and musical productions which no
longer exist. Among the most significant personalities
of the museum's collection - directors Vs.Meyerhold and
A.Tairov, actresses M.Savina and V.Komissarjevskaya,
artists A.Benois and L.Bakst, K.Malevich and V.Tatlin,
composers N.Rimsky-Korsakov and D.Shostakovich, singer
F.Chaliapin, ballet masters M.Fokine and F.Lopukhov,
dancers V.Nijinsky and M.Baryshnikov, A.Pavlova and
G.Ulanova - to name but a few. Here there are also
private belongings of great composers, singers, actors
enabling to reconstruct the atmosphere, in which they
lived and created. Lunch. The Museum of Music in the
Sheremetiev Palace preserves the memory of theatrical
and musical traditions of the celebrated noble family of
Sheremetiev. Here, one of the world's biggest
collections of musical instruments is located. Evening

Day 4

Breakfast.
Alexander Nevsky Lavra / Tikhvinskoye Cemetery A visit
to the burial place of St.Petersburg's musical elite.
To name a few - Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Glinka,
Mussorgsky, Rimsky Korsakov. A truly amazing morning.
Lunch. Afternoon visit to the world famous Vaganova
Ballet School - The names of Anna Pavlova, Tamara
Karsavina, Nijinsky, Mathilde Kschesinskaya, Olga
Preobrazhenskaya, Rudolph Nureyev and Galina Ulanova
are famous the world over. All of them have contributed
to the history of ballet. Please note on occasions due
to operational difficulties it may be necessary to
replace the school visit with another excursion (a
Summer Palace for example) .This is a working school and
visits can not be arranged long in advance. We will let
you know as soon as possible after booking if it will be
